TOMS One For One campaign
TOMS One For One launched in Australia last week. I attended the launch party for Melb Girl, but I also wanted to write about it on ALBNH because I think it’s for a great cause. (You can read my original post for Melb Girl here.)
TOMS is a label that gives when you buy. Their speciality is shoes. The concept behind the One For One movement means that every time you purchase a pair of shoes, they give a pair to a child in need.
TOMS runs a similar program with glasses and sunglasses, but in this instance they help to give people sight. If some one needs surgery and/or glasses, TOMS can make that happen.
TOMS give to communities all over the world. At their last count in October 2011, the support of their customers had allowed them to give away over 2,000,000 pairs of shoes. (And it’s only increased since then!)
I’m also writing about TOMS because from a fashion point of view, the shoes are pretty outstanding. And just to clarify, TOMS factories are all third-party audited to ensure they employ no child labour and have fair wages.
There are quite literally styles and colours to suit all occasions – and at very reasonable prices. You can see the online store here for yourself. It’s actually a bit addictive trying to pick a favourite because there are so many styles! I’m thinking one of the wedges would be awesome for summer, though.
One of the things I like about TOMS is that they also feature vegan designs. This means a lot of the products are produced using no animal products.
So, if you’re looking for an alternative place to buy new shoes, I’d recommend TOMS. I got to have a good look at the products during the launch party, and I loved them. As I titled my post for Melb Girl, it really is ‘shopping for a cause’!
You can see and read more online, or check out the TOMS Facebook or Twitter pages.
