Re-using old records

I recently attended and participated in an interesting high tea party. It was actually my sister’s 18th birthday – I reckon you have never seen such a range of delicacies.

I was (unfortunately) minimally involved because my family lives an hour and a half away from Melbourne. (In my defence, I did do some icing and helped set up and clean up.)

But the point of this post was a great idea my mum had: using old records as a cupcake stand. The pictorial reference might describe what I mean better than I can in words:

The fittings in between the records were purchased for $4.95 from eBay. I thought it was a rather nifty idea – and it was actually quite stable, which was an original worry. Mum thought that when it was lifted, the records would give under the weight of cakes. But it didn’t, and the cakes made it from the kitchen to the immaculately set tables without a worry.

I also thought I’d leave you with some photos of our ‘little helper’, Charlie. He seemed to have quite as much fun at the party as we did!
